STUDENTS from the University of York have won a business competition for developing an original idea.
Teams from the university were awarded the top prize of £10,000 and a runners-up prize of £1,000 in the White Rose Centre for Enterprise annual business plan contest.
The competition is open to students and recent graduates from the universities of York, Leeds and Sheffield.
Students are required to develop an original business idea, but get support from business development staff.
Citizen Direct, the winning team from York, presented a business idea to help identify people who are missing out on means-tested benefits.
It is the second time York has won the competition. In 2001, Skycell won first prize and is now a fully-fledged business.
