A NORTH-EAST swimmer has scored gold at the World Transplant Games.
Denise Baker, a grandmother-of-two from Darlington, was given a liver transplant 15 years ago.
She travelled to Nancy, in France, last month for the Games, where she managed to pick up a gold medal for the 400m freestyle and silver medals for the 200m freestyle and relay.
Days later, the 44-year-old competed in the British Transplant Games in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, winning one silver and two bronze medals.
"I'm absolutely shattered but really, really chuffed with my medals," said Mrs Baker, who works in the Model T pub in Mowden. "I'm not bad for a granny."
