A GIANT mechanical rubbish bin and an aluminium can wrapped around a tree were among the unusual attractions on show in Darlington Market Square yesterday.
The Rethink Rubbish Roadshow was run by Darlington Borough Council, which is weeks away from introducing a kerbside recycling system. It will be phased in across the borough over the coming months.
Yesterday's roadshow was designed to urge residents to "think green".
People were given advice by council officers, who also demonstrated the three-metre high, electric engine dustbin.
As the world's largest motorised bin, it is even fully licensed to drive on UK roads.
The kerbside recycling system will see 44,000 green boxes delivered to homes in the area, to allow residents to get their household waste recycled.
