DRUG addict Michael Palmer got what he wanted when he was jailed yesterday to help him kick the habit.
Palmer, 24, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates' Court to hear his solicitor Geoffrey Rogers call for an immediate sentence on two charges of shoplifting, one of drugs possession and two of failing to answer bail, even though that would mean prison.
He said Palmer was trying to overcome accommodation problems and change his lifestyle, and had been receiving the heroin substitute methadone on prescription because heroin caused his problems.
Mr Palmer said: ''He certainly is of the belief that custody might be a good thing.''
Palmer, of Mayfield Grove, Harrogate, was jailed for six months.
