A new record was created in the league at the weekend when Middleton in Teesdale were all out for just six runs in their home game against East Cowton in Division B.

The league's assistant secretary Steve Gill confirmed that the score equalled the six runs which Cleveland Bridge made against Bishop Auckland some years ago but that was a cup tie.

In fact only five runs came from the bat and Dave Garth top scored with two runs as Middleton in Teesdale collapsed to Andy Whitfield who captured six for two and Paul Holdsworth who took the other two wickets at a cost of just three runs.. Middleton in Teesdale fielded just nine players.

Batting first East Cowton also struggled for runs but made a match winning 85 for six which included an unbeaten 42 by Woodcock. Smith added 28 and for Middleton in Teesdale, D Watson returned two for 35, N Watson two for 32 and Waller two for 14.

Rockcliffe Park lead the division despite losing by five wickets to Spennymoor who celebrate only their fifth victory in 14 attempts When they made first use of the wicket, Rockcliffe Park were all out for 116 with Marshall top scoring on 37. Rowel took five wickets for 49 and Troop, who shared the attack throughout captured the other five at a cost of 61 runs.

In reply, Spennymoor were given a good send off by Spence (23) and Troop who made 44 before Rowel batting at number three, carried his bat for 26. Flood took two of the five wickets to fall for 28 runs and the other three were shared by Lowe, Raby and Edwards.

Middleton Tyas had 67 runs in hand visiting Trimdon CCA. When they batted first, Middleton Tyas realised 148 for seven in 35 overs with Wilkinson hitting four boundaries in 45 and Wiper who also opened the innings, striking six fours out of 52. Later, Ashwell added 24 and for Trimdon CCA Brian Coughtrey bowled 12 overs taking five for 34. Carter gave support with two for 54.

In reply Trimdon CCA were all out in 27.2 overs with just 81 runs on the board. Lee opened the innings scoring 18 which was the highest score as Campbell claimed three for 41 in ten overs, Baxter took four at a cost of just 26 runs and Wilkinson weighed with three for seven.

Dales and Catterick Village tied their game. Batting first the visitors made 142 for four with Swainston scoring 30, Ostleton 26 and Coultish an unbeaten 37. Three of the four wickets were claimed by Hutchinson at a cost of 67 runs and Dales used only one other bowler in the attack with Wallis one for 64.

In response Dales finished with 142 for five by the time their overs expired. Alderson opened making 26 and Lawson carried his bat for 43 while Bowers added a useful 22 before he was run out. Catterick Village also utilised just two bowlers in the attack with Gailey taking two for 77 and Swainston one for 55.

A Elstob batted throughout the Lands innings scoring an undefeated 129 which together with 29 by Galton and 24 not out by D Elstob propelled the home side to 203 for three.

Burton was the only Spennithorn and Harmby bowler to take wickets and he returned three for 44 in the four man attack.

In reply, Spennithorn and Harmby made 108 for five leaving Lands winners by 95 runs.

Clarkson struck 52 and Mawer 31 while for Lands the wickets were share by Little with two for 18, P Dalton, Simpson and Howe.

Despite reducing Heighington to 70 all out, Eryholme had to work hard for a three wickets victory. They were indebted to Thornton for his opening contribution of 30 as Jameson claimed three for 24.

Batting first Heighington also struggled for runs and their top scorer was Overfield who went in at number three, with 25. Craggs was in good form with the ball for Eryholme taking four for ten and Lynn gave support with three for 21.

In Division A, Cockerton defeated Ingleton by eight wickets. The home side batted 35 overs making only 98 for seven which included 38 by Paul Watson, with seven boundaries. Wood made a valuable 24 but generally the bowlers were contained by Dave Glew who in 14 overs including five maidens, clinched four for 23.

When they went into bat Cockerton needed just 25.1 overs and conceded just two wickets making the necessary runs. They conceded two early wickets before Steve Farrow was joined by Ian Rawlings. Farrow struck a couple of boundaries carrying his bat for 38 while Rawlings had once six and two fours in 32 not out.

Cliffe defeated Aldbrough St John by eight wickets. Required to score 115 they did so despite losing two of their first three batsmen for a combined total of just three runs. Rogerson (40no) then joined opener Hipkiss, who carried his bat for 64.

When they batted first, Aldbrough St John totalled just 114 which included 37 by Jones who opened the innings. Holehouse contributed 21 but generally runs were in short supply once Carrick was introduced into the attack at first change. He took six for 26 runs and Rutherford gave support with two for 40.

Witton le Wear had 28 runs to spare over visitors Haughton. When they made first use of the wicket the home side were indebted to Sneath (39no) and to Jones who finished undefeated on 21 as the pair put together a profitable unbroken partnership for the fifth wicket. Earlier, Nelson made a useful 22 and in the Haughton attack, Stocker took two for 27 and Bean two for 15.

Replying Haughton managed only 102 for eight and top scorer was Dobinson with 21. Witton le Wear's Jones returned four for 43 and Nelson four for 55.

Middleton St George hosted Raby Castle and won by five wickets. their target was only 104 and after Hussein (21) and Rogers (29) had given the innings a good send off the momentum was maintained by Iyub, who finished unbeaten with 23. Jones took three for 33 and Poole two for 30 in the Raby Castle attack.

When they made first use of the wicket Raby Castle found run-making difficult. West at number three, contributed 20 but the innings only just past the three figure mark as Hussein captured six for 40 and McKenna four for 49.

Heighington were in scoring mode at home to Barningham. A total of 221 for six was posted as Olney scored 52, Beaumont 54 and Wait and unbeaten 32. Both Walker and Bellwood claimed two wickets each in the Barningham attack.

When they went in to bat Barningham made just 96 all out which included 33 by Mullens and 36 from French, Beaumont followed up his good performance with the bat by taking three wickets for just 29 runs and Fawcett returned an analysis of three for 42. Jackson was also among the wickets taking two at a cost of just eight runs.

Barton visited Rockcliffe Park where they won with half their wickets remaining. Despite losing both opener cheaply, Barton were never seriously troubled as Miller, who went in at number three, batted throughout the innings for an undefeated 54. Howell ended with three for 29 for Rockcliffe Park.
