A VILLAGE has asked for more time to consider an application for a housing scheme which would increase the population by about 250 people.
The Hospitaller Order of St John of God confirmed in March last year it would be closing the private facilities at Scorton.
The site will be sold to help pay for new services run by the charity in Richmondshire, although the order is hoping it can first win permission for homes on the land.
An application has been submitted to convert the main hospital into 55 apartments. If planners agree, then newer buildings on the site will be demolished to make way for an additional 22 houses.
The parish council has a number of concerns about the project. However, rather than objecting outright, it has asked that Richmondshire District Council allows more time for discussions on proposals with the order and its architects.
If the district authority agrees, then the village administration also hopes to arrange an exhibition, which would give residents the chance to examine the plans, followed by a public meeting.
