THE inquest into the deaths of the Selby rail disaster victims will finally get under way next month.
Ten people died when an express train collided with a freight train on the East Coast main line at Great Heck, near Selby, in February 2001. West Yorkshire coroner David Hinchliff has announced the joint inquests will be held from September 8, at the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate. The hearing is due to last about five days.
MANY THANKS: A garden open day held at Alwent Hall, Winston, near Barnard Castle, County Durham, raised £1,250 towards the refurbishment of the village tennis courts. Members of the Winston Playing Fields group, which organised the event, have thanked those at the hall for the use of the gardens and anyone who contributed.
HEAVENLY SOUNDS: An organ recital by Colin Walsh, from Lincoln Cathedral, will be held at the Parish Church of St George, Gateshead, at 7.30pm on Friday, August 22, in aid of the church's restoration.Tickets are £7 or £6 for the over-65s.
