WORKERS at a Darlington supermarket were treated to free sun cream yesterday to protect them from the scorching weather.

Managers at the Asda store in Whinbush Way gave staff working outdoors, including warehouse men and trolley porters, lotion to protect their skin.

A store spokeswoman said: "We wanted to make sure that people who have to be out of doors are safe in the sun."

Supermarket staff have also been carrying out car park patrols to ensure no dogs have been left in vehicles without water or ventilation.
