A MAN jumped to his death from a railway viaduct in an apparent suicide bid.
The 48-year-old, who has not been named, fell more than 100ft from the bridge that carries the East Coast Main Line over North Road, in Durham City.
The incident caused Sutton Street, where his body was found, to be closed for about an hour yesterday morning.
A Durham Police spokes-man said the man was believed to have been receiving treatment at a psychiatric hospital a few yards from the viaduct.
The man was declared dead at the scene. The spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances.
North Durham Coroner Andrew Tweddle has been informed.
