AN award-winning nurse is hoping to inspire others to take part in a charity abseil.

Jayne Unwin, from Ingleby Barwick, was named the Marie Curie Nurse of the Year and was asked to spend the year as an ambassador for the charity.

Part of her job was to help raise the profile of Marie Curie Cancer Care and as part of this the 34-year-old has agreed to abseil from the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle.

However, not content to undertake the challenge herself, she has also roped in the help of her friends Vicki Smith and Mary Wardell, who join her on Sunday, September 7.

Mrs Unwin said: "It will be the first time I have ever done anything like this and I am quite looking forward to it.

"It is quite a challenge and the reason I am doing it is because after winning the Nurse of the Year award it is nice to do something in the local community to help the charity raise money."

Anyone who would like to take part in the abseil or sponsor Mrs Unwin is asked to contact the charity's fundraising office on 0191-382 3311.
