A CASH-strapped hospice has landed a £5,610 windfall.
Teesside Hospice, in Middlesbrough, which needs £2,600 each day to maintain its services, has been remembered by the League of Friends of Middlesbrough General and West Lane Hospitals, which wound-up earlier this year, after more than 25 years of fundraising.
In that time it has raised more than £25,000.
The branch disbanded on March 31 when all hospital services were switched to the single-site James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
The league agreed at its last annual meeting, that after making its last donations - which included £3,000 to the Great North Air Ambulance - any money left in the account should be donated to Teesside Hospice Care Foundation in acknowledgement of the care given to past and present patients of the South Tees Health Trust, which also included the league's own ex-chairman and his wife.
Joanne Denwood, of the Teesside Hospice Care Foundation, said: "It is a fantastic donation for the hospice."
