A SEARCH to find the brainiest pub or club in Billingham will be held next month as part of a challenge to raise money for charity.
Six pubs and clubs will take part in the quiz as part of the annual Old Billingham Carnival and Garden Show.
The Salutation, Visions, Smiths Arms, Black Horse, New Moon and Billingham Social Club will enter teams in the event.
A pub quiz crawl will start at 6pm on September 10, and competitors will have to guess the ingredients of a mystery drink.
Organiser Roger Black said: "Lord knows what state some of them will be in after four hours on the circuit, but it is all in a good cause and will raise lots of money for charity."
Hundreds of visitors are expected to turn up at Old Billingham Green on the weekend of September 13 and 14 for the carnival.
The green and neighbouring Bullgarth will be transformed with fairground rides, live music, stalls, special events and competitions. There will also be a strongman competition on the Sunday.
Mr Black said: "Every year we get bigger and better and it is a major event in the town's calendar, well supported by local businesses, residents and organisation who all play their part.
"We expect to raise thousands of pounds for local charities."
