DEEP in the forest a group of children worked their magic to bring the woodland to life yesterday.
A series of plays was performed by children in Hamsterley Forest to mark the completion of an out-of-school scheme.
More than 50 youngsters from Teesdale and Wear Valley took part in a project organised by the county's Study Support Service as part of a county-wide Schools Out programme.
Local theatre company Jack Drum Arts joined primary and secondary school pupils for week-long workshops in the The Enchanted Forest project.
Each group worked with professional artists, inventing stories and songs based on ideas gained from walking through the forest, and creating a play to perform.
Julie Ward, of Jack Drum Arts, said: "It has been hard work, but they have all had a great time. It is hoped the activities have not only kept children entertained during their summer holidays, but that they have expanded their imagination and increased confidence."
The project was supported by Teesdale and Wear Valley Rural Transport partnership, which provided funding for free transport every day.
