POLICE are investigating a school blaze.

Computers, equipment and books were destroyed in the fire, which was started in the secretary's office at Brambles Primary School, Middlesbrough.

There was 20 per cent fire damage to the room and 80 per cent smoke damage, with slight smoke damage to 30 metres of corridor.

The fire was started after paper in the office was set alight. Entry to the school was made after several windows were first removed.

Sub-Officer Steve Owens, based at Grangetown fire station, said: "If it had not been detected as early as it was, it could have been worse.''

A police spokeswoman said the arson investigation unit was investigating.

Arsonists are also being blamed for a blaze which destroyed the roof of a semi-detached bungalow in Greenford Walk, Thorntree, Middlesbrough, in the early hours of Saturday.
