A SPECIAL police operation took place yesterday to find more witnesses to a hit-and- run incident which led to a pensioner's death.
One week after the incident, in Marton Road, Middlesbrough, officers from the Cleveland Police crash investigation unit questioned pedestrians and drivers in a bid to find more information.
The man who died, Bernard Darby, 75, of Penrith Close, Redcar, east Cleveland, was married with two daughters, a son and six grandchildren aged between 11 and 21.
He was using the pedestrian crossing outside the Toby Carvery pub, Marton Road when he was struck by a car which failed to stop.
