A SCULPTURE named Organic Growth has captured the imagination of art lovers.
The plaster sculpture, by Daphne Wattis, is one of many works of art by local artists on display at Billingham Art Gallery.
Other artists chose paintings of traditional country scenes to portray in pictures what the phrase Organic Growth represented to them.
"I think it looks like a person hunched in a bowl," said a spokesman for the art gallery, "but other people totally disagree and have different ideas. It's a real talking point and people seem to really like it."
The exhibition at the gallery represents the work of dozens of members of Hartlepool, Cleveland and Stockton and Billingham Art Societies.
People can view the works for free until the exhibition closes on Saturday, September 13.
The gallery, which is on Queensway near the police station, can be contacted on (01642) 397590.
