ANIMAL welfare officers have renewed their appeal for witnesses to an attack on a rabbit.
The animal had its ears sliced off by a sharp object and was left bleeding in the road last Thursday.
It was found in Bewick Crescent, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, by a member of the public, who contacted the RSPCA.
The animal was taken to a veterinary surgery where it received treatment and was placed on a drip.
The RSPCA received several calls from people offering to give the rabbit a new home, but so far nobody has called in with information on the attack.
Spokeswoman Heather Holmes said the rabbit was making good progress, but urged anybody with any information to get in touch.
She said: "The rabbit is doing a lot better and I think it's going to be transferred to the our animal centre at Great Ayton once it gets a little bit stronger.
"We have taken plenty of calls from people wanting to re-home the rabbit, but no calls from people with information came in over the weekend, so we are renewing our appeal."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA on 08705 555999. Information will be treated in confidence and can be given anonymously.
