LEISURE chiefs in Sedgefield borough are to provide activities for a previously neglected group of people.

Although leisure centres in the borough provide events for the young and elderly, there is very little for those people in between.

Now Sedgefield Borough Council is to introduce a project called Zest, which aims to put that right.

A spokeswoman for the council said: "At Sedgefield Borough Council leisure services we believe that there is a gap in what we provide for people in the leisure centres at Ferryhill, Shildon Sunnydale, Newton Aycliffe and Spennymoor.

"Both men and women of middle-age, who class themselves as not young, but definitely not old, have very little choice in the range of activities available. We intend to change this.

"We would like to hear from anyone with ideas. What activities would you like to do again, what would you like to try? Or even what would you like to invent?"

Anyone with ideas is being invited to telephone (01388) 816166, extension 4378, and ask to speak to either Nicola, Lynsey or Liz.
