BROADCASTERS hoping to win a licence for a radio station serving Durham are returning to the airwaves.
Durham Local Radio (DLR) will operate under a temporary licence from September 1 to September 28.
DLR, which will bid for the commercial licence, broadcast for a month earlier this year and said its research found that 30 per cent of people had heard of the station.
Durham FM, operated by the company that runs Sunderland's Sun FM and Alpha, in Darlington, has also had two months on air and will be bidding for the licence.
DLR will broadcast 24-hours a day on 107FM and will have a mobile studio at Sainsbury's, in the Arnison Centre, Pity Me.
Programme director Hugh Evans said: "We don't think that if you slap on the music like a jukebox and mention Durham every now and again that people will listen to us. The aim is to be a tool for the community.''
Brian Clough, a Northern Echo photographer, will broadcast country and 1960s music programmes during the run, which features specialist music programmes.
