SEVEN friends are about to set off on a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition in North Wales.
The 17-year-olds - John Major, James Silk, David Gavens, Joe Beabin, Sarah Thornton, Gabrielle Taylor and Clare Hargreaves - from Guisborough Youth Centre, will have four days to walk 50 miles across Snowdonia, camping en route.
"I think it's a very difficult route and they will be totally self reliant," said senior youth worker David Maddision.
"It is remarkable they have all stayed together since they were 14 throughout the three levels of bronze, silver and gold."
Guisborough Town Council has awarded £100 to the teenagers for the expedition.
The group will also have to undertake a service, take part in a physical activity, learn a skill and complete a residential project to earn the award.
