A FITTING tribute to a former deputy mayor of Darlington was paid yesterday.
The town's present first citizen, Councillor Ron Lewis, presented a cheque for £1,000 to Mary Richardson, of the Tees area group of the National Association of Colitis and Crohn's Disease.
The money was raised in the Mayor's Charity Shop, in Duke Street, and was seen as an ideal tribute to Councillor Ken Walker, who died last year after suffering with Crohn's Disease for 20 years.
Coun Walker had represented the North Road area in which he grew up, since 1983.
His wife, Susan, attended the cheque presentation at the town hall yesterday.
