COUNCILLORS have deferred a decision over a plan to turn a hotel into flats.

Malcolm McKee has applied to turn the hotel he owns, the Regency Hotel, in Coatham Road, Redcar, into 42 self-contained apartments. Planning officers had recommended councillors approve the development. But at a site meeting, at which local residents were present, councillors deferred a decision and requested the applicant to submit a revised scheme. Councillor Helen McLuckie said: "I think the applicant could come up with a bit better scheme - something more acceptable to the people who live there." Residents living near the proposed development are concerned that their light may be blocked and that any balconies built would result in a loss of their privacy.
