PREMIER Division new boys Thirsk Falcons got their season off to a flying start with a comfortable 4-0 home win over local rivals Northallerton Town Reserves last Saturday.
Falcons, who didn't drop a single league point last season, looked at home in their higher surroundings throughout the match.
After an even opening few minutes, during which Falcons keeper Sopterean punched clear the first shot of the game, the home side went ahead on ten minutes. Matty Wright jinked his way into the box and was brought down, Dave Young neatly tucking away the resulting penalty.
Young almost grabbed his second nine minutes later with a shot on the turn after Northallerton failed to clear a corner.
The second goal came soon after when Neil Clark whipped in a cross from the right and Chris Moores headed the ball past Hird. As half-time approached, Falcons should have made it three as Robson hit the post twice in a penalty box melee.
Moores went close again on the hour before Hird saved Lambert's 20-yard drive as Falcons pushed for their third. They found it on 56 minutes when a long ball set Robson free and he calmly slotted home.
Young then crowned an impressive performance when he grabbed Falcons' fourth and Lambert could have made it five but for Hird's intervention.
