Doctor faces 22 sex charges

A FAMILY doctor will appear in court this morning to face 22 charges, including four indecent assaults.

Dr Syed Amjad Husain, 29, of Darlington, has been charged with indecently assaulting a woman in her 30s and, in separate incidents, indecently assaulting two girls.

The three assualts are alleged to have taken place in the consulting rooms at the Orchard Court surgery in Darlington where Dr Husain worked.

He also faces a charge of indecent assault against a 74-year-old woman during a home visit and 18 charges of making indecent images of girls under 16 - 16 relating to images on a computer, two to camcorder images.

Dr Husain will appear at Peterlee Magistrates' Court this morning.

More than 6,000 patients at Orchard Court Surgery, were yesterday sent letters explaining the situation, although Darlington's public health director, Nonnie Crawford, said it had been "a major logistical exercise" and apologised to any patients who had not received notification.
