Shildon: Shildon finished the track and field season off last weekend with four athletes competing in the AAA UK championships at Sheffield.
Warren Roberts rounded off a magnificent season for the club by qualifying for the Under-15 Boys 1500m final. Having set a personal best time in the heats, the Durham County Schools champion went better in the final, finishing 10th in a time of 4.18.7 - a time which placed him in the top 15 in the UK this year. Khalil Thompson also found the event to his liking, recording a personal best time of 4.29.1 in the heats, just missing out on the final.
Alex Todd, the Durham County Schools 100m champion, progressed through the heats to the semi finals of the 100m and just missed out of a final place in the 200m heats the following day. In the Under-15 boys High Jump, Michael Wilkinson finished 11th in the final with a best jump of 1.65m.
* Whilst these athletes take a well earned break, the rest of the junior section have returned to training in readiness for the winter season fixtures. Both the middle distance and sprint groups are welcoming new members to their already successful groups on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6pm, whilst the primary schools group has recommenced on Wednesday evenings at 6pm.
All sessions are taking place at the Stadium 2000 arena in Shildon. New members are asked to wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and junior athletes should be accompanied by an adult on their first evening.
