Teesside teenager Jonathan Cocker will continue his fight for a podium finish in the 15th and 16th rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch this Bank Holiday weekend whilst also celebrating his 17th birthday on Sunday.
The teenager will at last able to drive himself to race meetings, providing he wears his L-plates of course! Regularly driving at speeds of up to 150 mph on the track, Cocker will have to adjust to a slower pace on the roads as well as listening to the advice of a driving instructor!
Cocker moved up one place, to fourth position in the championship, at Snetterton on 9 August, after finishing seventh in the sprint race (fifth on points), despite having his brakes fail. He went on to finish fourth in the feature race (second on points).
Now just 24 points behind third place Richard Westbrook and with 44 points up for grabs this weekend, Cocker has a fantastic chance to move up the championship table again. His team, Red Line Racing, are currently lying second in the team standings.
"I was really pleased with my results at Snetterton and improving my position in the championship at such a crucial stage. At Brands, I'm aiming to get a podium finish so I can move up again," Cocker said.
With only two further race meetings remaining this season, at Donington Park and Oulton Park next month, Jonathan knows he will have to give 100 per cent in order to gain a top three slot.
