The Villa Real Cup first round produced its usual shock results.
Newcomers to the league Peterlee FC won 5-1 away to Division Three side Regency Windows. Peterlee opened with attacking football and took the head after 15 minutes when Gary Wintrip put Maurice Flint in the clear to go on a score. Minutes later Wintrip went down the left wing then cut inside and cleverly beat the keeper with a well directed right foot shot to make it 2-0. Then close on the interval Stephen Fairless made it 3-0 when he scored with a fierce 25-yard drive. After the restart Flint went solo to score his second goal of the match and make it 4-0 up to the visitors. Shots from Flint, Fairless and Hodgson hit the post but were cleared to safety before Robson pulled one back for Regency. Neil Hodgson made it 5-1 when he netted on the closing minutes.
Division Four side Marsden Veterans defeated Division Two Spring Gardens 3-2 on penalties after holding them to a 0-0 draw in extra time. Hero of the game was Marsden's keeper Chris McGuinness who pulled two fantastic saves to win the game.
Durham City Strollers won the game in the first half when they led 4-0 against Halfway House. Steve Greener notching a hat-trick and Taylor scoring one. The second half saw the visitors having the bulk of the game but only scoring one goal.
The Wynyard Old Boys turned in a fine display of football in the second half to win 2-0 over newcomers Hartlepool Warriors the first half ended goalless with neither side creating chances.
The restart saw the Old Boys slowly getting on top. Barry Redhead was outstanding, he headed home a Terry Been corner to make it 4-0 and then outjumped all to put away a corner from Evans.
He also head home a cross from Tony Beech but it was judge offside. Stars for the Old Boys were Phil Douglas, Tommy Beech and Terry Bean but it was a real second half team effort which won the game after a lack-lustre first half.
