POLICE issued a warning to Darlington residents yesterday after thieves struck.
A handbag containing a large amount of money was taken from a house in Shannon Way on Wednesday night.
On the same evening, a car radio was also taken from a vehicle parked at Teesside Airport.
Inspector Dennis Dickson, of Darlington police, said: "I would strongly advise people not to leave anything in view to thieves and preferably not to leave any property in the vehicle at all."
He said that, although crime had fallen in some areas after Neighbourhood Watch campaigns, people should not become complacent.
