Worthington Durham County CIU Summer League: The Third Division title was thrown wide open when leaders, Bearpark went down to only their second defeat of the season on their visit to Tow Law A.

Heppell Hodgson put the Lawyers ahead with Glen Morton levelling. However wins from Doug Watson and Tommy Williams ensured a home win, whilst Shaun Easter took the final frame to keep Bearpark two points clear at the top.

Coundon closed the gap on Bearpark to two points after they whitewashed the visiting Tow Law B with wins from Gary Goulbourn, Frank Nicholson, Stuart Neil, Willy Shoulder and Steven Bennett.

New Durham maintained the pace set by Coundon and remain only a point behind following their whitewash victory over the visiting Leeholme B. The home winners were Gordon Bowes, Thomas Cairns, Kevin Scullion, Brian Birks and Neil Phillips.

Crowtrees lost their short-lived sole ownership of the top place in the Second Division when they went down in the decider at Ferryhill.

The home side went two up with wins from Bernie Jones and Glyn Toas. However Crowtrees fought back to level with wins from Mark Wilson and Neil Spender. In the decider Ferryhill went to victory when Chris Buston beat Martin Wolf.

Meadowfield moved up to share the top spot with Crowtrees after they were never headed on their trip to Wheatley Hill B. Craig Hughes put Meadowfield ahead with Peter Taylor levelling. Ian Hodgson restored the visitors' lead only to see Jock Frost equalise. In the decider Meadowfield's Norman Smith beat Ken Johnson.

Spennymoor B lost vital ground in the Second Division when they slipped to equal third place, two points short of the joint leaders, after they only collected one point from their visit to Langley Park. Micky Anderson was the only winner for the Moors, whilst Peter Morgan, Robert Roche, Kevin Keers and Stephen Coates took the Park to victory.

Stanley Central also slipped up and share the third place with Spennymoor B after they went down by the odd point at Durham City.

The Central took the first and last points through Frank Foster and Harry Grimes, whilst the City went to victory with wins from Eric Wright, Brian Dunn and Barry Stoddart.

Spennymoor A continued their procession to the League Championship, although they were pressed hard by the visiting Willington. Arthur Goldsborough put the visitors' ahead with Michael Pratt levelling. Jeremy Martin restored Willington's lead only to see Paul Biddle equalise. In the decider the Moors went to victory when Paul Atkinson beat Gordon Parkin.

Wheatley Hill A stayed 13 points behind Spennymoor A when they recovered to win by the odd point at Shotton Palms. Paul Hickman and John Armstrong won for the Palms with Dennis Clish and Dave Walker levelling. In the decider the Hill's Jack Wright beat Jimmy Evans.

Newton Aycliffe slipped up in their quest for the First Division runners-up spot when they went down by the odd point to the visiting Sherburn Village. The home side took the first and last points through Mark Howe and Richie Youing, whilst Sherburn had wins from Michael Crisp, Alan Greener and John Bower.

Witton Gilbert won a vital relegation battle at the foot of the First Division when they beat the visiting Brandon by the odd point. The home side had wins from John Rooney senior, Ian Renwick and Willis Joynes, whilst Brandon replied with wins from Kevin Sample and Colin Goodrick.

Fishburn A also made an important home win to help their aim of avoiding relegation when they beat the visiting Newhouse with wins from John Carter, John Griffin and Alan Buist. The visitors' points came from John Maddox and Ronnie Pearson.

Wingate needed a big win at Crook Belle Vue but lost two vital points in their aim for promotion from the Second Division. Dean Jones put in a 36 break to put Wingate ahead with Jimmy Mason adding a second. John Warriner opened the home side's account but Dave Hammond stepped up to ensure a Wingate victory. However, Arnold Fleming returned to the Belle Vue side with a classy 31 break to reduce the arrears.

Only Barry Fleming managed to take a point for Hunwick on their visit to Sacriston, who had wins from Alan Richardson, Dale Evans, Willy Nixon and Mark Appleby.

Fishburn B made a good recovery at Leeholme A to win in the decider. Lawrence Jones put the home side ahead with Jamie Hodgson equalising. Karl Thompson restored the home lead only to see Winston Hodgson set up the decider, where the visiting Keith Binks beat Barry Shaw on the black.

Ithe final match of the season Newton Aycliffe Southerne Club avoided relegation when they managed to force a draw on their visit to Darlington Cricket Club A, leaving their hosts in the drop position.
