THE BBC's Antiques Roadshow is visiting the Spa Grand Hall, in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, on Thursday, September 25.
Some of Britain's leading antiques specialists will be on hand to offer advice and valuations to the 1,500 visitors expected. The roadshow opens at 9.30am and closes at 4.30pm. The programme is expected to be broadcast early next year.
CASE ADJOURNED: A case against a teenager facing charges involving animal cruelty has been adjourned. David Lorraines, 19, of St Cuthbert's Walk, Liverton Mines, near Saltburn, east Cleveland, faces four counts of causing suffering to animals in January. He is also charged with failing to feed cattle a wholesome diet, failing to feed domestic fowl a wholesome diet, failing to have access to welfare for cattle, and an animal by-products order in January. The case was adjourned by Guisborough magistrates until Friday, August 29.
MAN STABBED: A man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the neck yesterday. The 47-year-old was stabbed in Shafto Terrace, Washington Concord, Wearside, shortly after midnight. He was taken by ambulance to Sunderland General Hospital, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A 19-year-old man has been arrested and is helping police inquiries. Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call Washington CID on 0191-454 7555, extension 66444.
GUN FOUND: Five men were arrested on Wednesday after a drugs operation was carried out in Hartlepool. Police stopped a vehicle in Hart Lane and found a small amount of cannabis, together with an 8mm automatic pistol and ammunition. The men were arrested and questioned by police. Four have been released without charge. A fifth man, from Scotland, has been bailed pending forensic tests.
FLYING DESIGN: Flight Sergeant Douglas Lee, an air traffic controller at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, in North Yorkshire, has designed and produced a commemorative cover - envelope - to celebrate 60 years of the Royal Air Forces Association (Rafa). All profits from the sale of the cover, the fourth he has designed, will be given to the Rafa Wings Appeal.
MOTHER MUGGED: A thief on a bicycle stole a mother's purse as she walked with her child. The thief, who was riding a mountain bike, struck as the 25-year-old woman was walking along Ethel Terrace, South Shields, South Tyneside, with her three-year-old son. The incident happened at 1.15pm on Wednesday.
SAY CHEESE: Byland Blue, the most recent addition to the range produced by Thirsk cheesemakers Shepherd's Purse, won the cheese competition at this year's Bakewell Show. It was named as Supreme Champion and Best Blue Cheese at the event.
BRIDGE TILTS: People can see the Gateshead Millennium Bridge tilt tomorrow. The award-winning structure will tilt at 8.05pm. On Sunday, the eye will tilt at 12.05pm, and again at 3pm.
