TWO companies are planning to open table dancing clubs in a city centre.
For Your Eyes Only, which opened Newcastle's first venue almost two years ago in the former Manors Social Club, in Carliol Square, wants to open FYEO II at the former Quay Club, in Dean Street, Newcastle. The owners of the Sugar nightclub, renamed Privilege, near the city's Centre for Life, have also applied to the city council's licensing committee for permission to run a table-dancing club.
CHARITY SHOW: A garden centre worker will be swapping geraniums for guitars this weekend, to raise money for charity. Laura Swaddle, of Dobbies Garden World, will entertain with her band Random Acts in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, at the garden centre in Durham Road, Birtley, tomorrow, from 1pm to 4.30pm.
MORE ROOM: Haulage firm Elddiss Transport has applied for planning permission to expand its warehouse, in Delves Lane, near Consett. The firm also wants to convert a former vehicle maintenance workshop into an office.
SPIDER SHOW: Two puppet shows for youngsters take place in the Lamplight Arts Centre in Stanley next Saturday. The Three Little Pigs will be performed at 11am, followed by Anansi the Magic Spider at 2pm. Tickets, priced £4 per show, are available from the box office on (01207) 218899.
SUMMER FAIR: The Bridge Enterprise Centre, in Branwa Community House, South Stanley, will hold a summer fair on Wednesday, from 10am to 2pm.
TOON CRAZY: Fans queued for to 30 hours to get the new Newcastle FC away kit when it went on sale on Thursday. The official Newcastle United shop, in Newcastle, opened at 6am to a rush of eager customers.
HOSPITAL BOOST: A balloon launch helped to raise £100 for the Treetops children's ward at the University Hospital of North Durham. The balloons were released from Elvet Bridge, Durham, by children to mark the first anniversary of V-Elvet, a designer childrenswear shop. The balloon returned from the furthest distance will earn shop vouchers for the person who paid for the £1 ticket.
RURAL RAMBLE: Chester-le-Street Ramblers have organised a walk on Sunday, August 31, at Edmondbyers, in Derwentside, with Dara Dastur. People wanting to take part are asked to meet at Chester-le-Street Civic Centre at 9.30am. Contact 0191-3881279 for further details.
CHANGING ROOMS: People can now register for interior design classes at Park View Community Association, in Church Chare, Chester-le-Street, which begin on September 15. The Changing Rooms course will include stencilling, and colour schemes and will take place on Fridays, between 7pm and 9pm.
