SIX huge sculptures were lifted into place yesterday in the latest phase of work to help establish the West Park area of Darlington.
The obelisk-style works of art were installed in the development, which is taking shape in the Faverdale area.
They are part of a major public art project, being created around the first new park land to be completed in Darlington in the last century.
Sculptor David Patton, who has already seen nine of his sculptures put in place at West Park, was commissioned to lead the artistic element of the site.
The community will include 700 homes, a sports club, school and mental health hospital.
Tony Cooper, of developers Bussey and Armstrong, said: "We have worked closely with Arts Council North-East over the last two years to bring forward an exciting plan for West Park.
"We are looking to play a significant role in supporting the arts in Darlington in the long-term."
