A STUDENT graphic designer yesterday unveiled his logo for one of the county's academies.
Twenty-year-old Andrew Jones beat competition from design professionals and was selected to create a logo for the Yorkshire Rail Academy (YRA) in York.
Andrew, who is studying for an HND in graphic design at York College, spent weeks researching the aims of the YRA and experimenting with his designs.
He said: "I tried to create a logo that resembled speed, with a modern look, that would also be eye-catching to the public.
"This is a real triumph for me - I'm just delighted that I've been given the opportunity to showcase my work with such an esteemed venture."
Developed jointly by York College and the National Railway Museum, and with £1.25m funding, the YRA will be the first academy of its kind in the country, providing training for rail employees and modern apprentices.
College principal, Mike Galloway, said: "The YRA will be producing a new generation of rail expertise and the logo has a very contemporary feel that represents this extremely effectively."
The logo will appear at the entrance to the YRA, in The Warehouse, at the museum.
