THE construction company that laid the foundations for the Millennium Dome has announced plans to cut 80 jobs.
Keller endured disappointing first-half trading in the UK and failed to meet a revenues growth target of 20 per cent. It is implementing measures to improve its performance.
The company, which has operations in Wetherby and Coventry, is involved in projects that include car parks and the refurbishment of affordable housing in London.
In the six months to June 30, the group said pre-tax profits rose seven per cent to £12.8m, while sales lifted 11 per cent to £278.7m.
Tom Dobson, chief executive, said: "While the first half was characterised by a strong performance from continental Europe and overseas business and a steadily improving performance from the US foundations business, trading in the UK was disappointing."
Keller also announced that, following a series of management changes, Mr Dobson would be retiring next spring.
He joined the group in 1966, becoming chief executive six years ago. Justin Atkinson, who joined Keller recently as chief operating officer, will be Mr Dobson's successor.
Total restructuring costs in the year are expected to be about £2m.
