A WOMAN has been robbed of her purse by two muggers.
Police said the 21-year-old was walking in Cleveland Terrace, Darlington, at about 4.30pm on Saturday when she was approached by two men who asked her for 20p to make a phone call.
The woman gave them the money and walked on, but the pair then ran up behind her with one of them grabbing her purse before they ran off.
The purse contained about £20 cash and two bank cards.
Sergeant Graham Charman, of Darlington police, said the woman was uninjured, adding: "It is possible other people may have been approached in this way and the same ruse used on them."
The two men ran off towards Trinity Road in the direction of Stanhope Road.
Both were aged between 19 and 20. One had blond hair and the other was wearing a blue and white striped T-shirt and had a jumper tied around his waist.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police on (01325) 467681.
