A CAMPAIGN to create a much-wanted sports area in a village has received a £1,000 boost.
People living in Middleton Tyas, near Richmond, are delighted with the most recent money bonus, which has taken them closer to reaching their target of £35,000.
The fundraising campaign to create a multi-use sport area in the village has been awarded £1,000 from North Eastern and Cumbrian Co-op's dividend scheme, which supports projects that provide a lasting benefit to the community.
The campaign has also been boosted by a £100,000 grant from the National Lottery's New Opportunities Fund.
Sports facilities, including changing rooms and an equipment store, will allow villagers to play tennis, netball, five a-side football and basketball on the school fields.
