THE town clock in Redcar should now be displaying the right time again on all its four faces.
The clocks hands, its mechanism and a cracked dial face have been repaired and were put back in place yesterday.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's coalition cabinet ordered the work, costing £5,000, ahead of major renovation work planned for the clock.
The Friends of Redcar Town Clock have raised £8,500 towards a £10,000 target, a figure the council has promised to match.
A further £11,000 has been provided by the West Redcar Single Regeneration Budget to fund a full survey of the building.
The King Edward VII Memorial Clock was paid for by public subscription and was opened on January 29, 1913.
Councillor Chris Abbott, cabinet member for housing and neighbourhood renewal, said: "When the three-group coalition was formed it became one of our priorities to get the clock ticking again."
Vera Robinson, from the Friends of Redcar Town Clock, said: "I'm pleased the clock will be ticking again, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
"The whole project is going to cost more than £110,000 and we're still fundraising so any help we can get from clubs or individuals will be gratefully received."
