AN east Durham gallery is to stage its own Turner exhibition - with work from local artist Norman Turner.

Born in South Hetton, Norman has lived in Seaham for the past 20 years and is looking forward to exhibiting his work at the Discovery Centre in Seaton Holme, in Easington Village.

A pit electrician at Eppleton Colliery for 33 years, Mr Turner is now retired and able to indulge his many hobbies, including wood carving, painting and photography.

He gained an A-level in art at Wearside College and enjoys painting in all mediums.

His exhibition opens on Friday and runs until September 25.

Also staging a display of work from Wednesday to December 29 will be Stuart Fisher. Born in Warwickshire, Mr Fisher has lived most of his life in Peterlee, where he works in architectural design, and his townscapes reflect his occupation.
