EXPERIENCED mountain bikers are being invited to test drive some of the region's most challenging off-road cycle routes.
The Forestry Commission is staging its final "ride with a guide" event in Hamsterley Forest, near Bishop Auckland, on Sunday, September 13 from 1pm.
It follows two earlier outings staged this summer aimed at novice bikers which proved a great success.
This two-wheeled expedition into the 4,000 acre outback is reserved for advanced riders capable of tackling the single tracks and steep gradients that have made Hamsterley a top venue for the sport.
Ranger Robin Lofthouse said: "Riders will require a very good level of fitness and bikes must be in first class condition."
Places cost £3 and must be booked by calling (01388) 488312. Helmets must be worn.
