A four-year-old girl who died after she was thrown from a pony was named by police today.
Madeline Eve Jackson was being led by a member of staff from a North Yorkshire riding stables when her mount became ''spooked'' on Sunday morning and threw her.
She was taken to hospital with severe head injuries but died later.
The animal, a miniature Welsh pony, is believed to have been spooked by something in the bushes nearby.
She was transferred by ambulance to Scarborough Hospital and then airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where she died The accident happened after Madeline and pony had left the Friars Hill Riding Stables, at Sinnington, near Kirkbymoorside, at 11.15am on Sunday.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the girl's family, who live in the Kirkbymoorside area, were ''devastated'' by the tragedy and did not wish to speak to the media.
