FOLK-singing, horse shows and dominoes were among the varied entertainment on offer during the 12th Haswell Do.

Despite having just 1,600 residents, the tiny village, situated between Durham and Easington, managed to organise four days and nights of entertainment over the Bank Holiday weekend.

An impromptu caravan site was set up at Haswell Primary School and many of the village's six pubs offered room for campers or musicians.

The weekend's events kicked off on Friday evening, with a folk club which was held at the Wayfarer pub.

On Saturday, Peterlee police took part in a five-a-side football tournament. There was also children's entertainment, plus folk music and a disco.

On Sunday, there was harness and Shetland pony racing, complete with a bookies and beer tent, and a family barn dance took place during the early evening.

Yesterday, the East Durham Ride and Drive Club hosted its annual show, with gymkhana events and competitions for harness riders and traps.
