A LOVING home is needed for Spice, a dog who has spent more than half her life in a sanctuary.
The playful cross-breed arrived at the Jay Gee Sanctuary for Dogs, in Catton, near Thirsk, part of the Jerry Green Foundation, when she was only five months old, having been abandoned in 1998.
Although she was adopted almost immediately, she was later returned to the sanctuary in August 2000 having not mixed well with children.
"She has been here ever since - three years to the day almost," said Hilary Milnes, who manages the shelter with her husband, Chris.
Spice is now almost six years old.
"She is a very fit and healthy dog, and although she doesn't mix with young children she is very friendly with adults," said Mrs Milnes.
"For the three years she has been with us, she has simply been overlooked by all visitors and I can't remember one single person ever even asking to take a closer look. It is so sad because I know she could make someone very happy."
Spice will stay at the sanctuary until a home is found for her.
Mr Milne said: "We all wish in our hearts that this year could be the year when Spice can spend Christmas in her own home.
"All dogs need a home to call their own and we hope Spice finds the love and comfort from an owner she deserves."
Anyone interested in offering Spice a home is asked to call the sanctuary on (01845) 567456.
