A WOMAN who went self-employed after being made redundant is celebrating her first success.

Susan French, of Gates-head, set up Contact field marketing and promotions with business partner Christine Taylor four months ago.

She struck out on her own after losing her job with a similar company in Huddersfield, where she managed the North-East.

Her new company has already secured a contract with corporate firm Proctor and Gamble.

"Since leaving school at the age of 15 I have never been out of work, so when I was made redundant, it was a shock," said the former Houghton-le-Spring shoe shop attendant.

"In a way I'm glad it happened because it gave me the determination and motivation I needed to set up Contact."

Operating from Whitley Bay, Contact manages a national database, offering services such as product sampling, brand promotions, mystery shopping and hospitality to companies across the UK.
