ONE of the North-East's most famous sons is to be honoured on the 250th anniversary of his birth.
Thomas Bewick will be remembered when a plaque of one of his most famous engravings is unveiled near his home, in Bewick Street, Newcastle.
The bronze plaque, depicting Bewick's 1789 engraving Chillingham Wild Bull, will be unveiled by the chairman of the Grainger Town Partnership and Newcastle City Council leader Tony Flynn.
Graham Bell, chairman of the Grainger Town Partnership's Public Arts Panel, said: "Thomas Bewick's work has been enjoyed by people throughout the world so, in this anniversary year, we wan-ted to celebrate his achievements by unveiling this fitting tribute to his legacy.
Councillor Flynn said: "This unveiling reflects Thomas Bewick's importance, not only for his contribution to the arts world, but also to the people and heritage of Newcastle"
The bronze cast of Thomas Bewick's famous work is one of eight art features planned for the Grainger Town area of the city.
The artwork was selected by the Grainger Town Public Arts Panel, in consultation with the Thomas Bewick Society.
A wall plaque dedicated to Thomas Bewick, under the City's Commemorative Plaques Scheme, will also be put up at the site of his workshop near the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas.
The unveiling ceremony takes place at 1pm tomorrow.
