PLANS for a discount supermarket on the site of the disused Scorpion nightclub, near Catterick Garrison, go before councillors on Tuesday.
German chain Lidl hopes to build a 1,286sq metre store on the Catterick Road site, at Colburn, following demolition of the former club.
Defence Estates has objected because it says the store would take away business from retailers nearer the centre of the garrison.
Objections have also been lodged by Leathley's Quality Fare stores, where managers are concerned about the effect of the development on Colburn's Broadway shops.
A report to Richmondshire district council's environment and planning committee said the local plan allows for retail development on the site.
Peter Featherstone, the planning department's development control team leader, is to look further at the possible impact on businesses at Catterick Garrison centre and Colburn.
No recommendation has yet been made to members of the planning committee.
