FOLLOWERS of fashion are being given the chance to own a part of theatrical history.
A collection of costumes from the Theatre Royal, in York, is going on sale, including the gowns of one of pantomime's best-known dames.
Outfits worn by Berwick Kaler in his annual pantos at York are among the costumes to be sold off early next month.
The Theatre Royal's costume hire department is running out of space, mainly because a new range of costumes is made for each production.
The sale will take place in the Studio at York Theatre Royal on Thursday, September 4, between 11am and 4pm.
Supervisor Pauline Rourke said: "In the past people have come from all over to purchase a piece of theatre history.
"You can pick up such an extraordinary range of garments, from period costumes to comic items such as pantomime garb. Berwick Kaler's hilarious frocks are always much in demand."
The theatre will be looking for new homes and loving owners for a number of costumes that have graced York Theatre Royal's stage.
