A joiner who was spending £500 a week on drugs was jailed for two years yester- day.
Steven Maddison, 44, from Hartlepool, who was addicted to cocaine and amphetamines, began selling drugs to his friends to help fund his habit.
Cleveland Police found £5,000 cash at his home and a booking for a £2,000 holiday in Barbados.
Teesside Crown Court was told how Maddison arrived home during a police raid in search of drugs on September 11 last year.
He tried to escape but was caught, said Shaun Dryden, prosecuting.
Maddison began using drugs after the breakdown of his marriage. He claimed that the £5,000 was savings, said Ian Skelt, defending.
Judge David Bryant said: "People who get involved in drug-dealing go to prison."
Maddison, of Alfred Court, was jailed for two years after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, amphetamines and Temazapam tablets with intent to supply.
