TWO goals in two games from Marcus Stewart have helped Sunderland enjoy a massive turnaround in fortunes.
But the in-form striker last night urged his teammates not to expect goals every game - he wants to see other players chip in to boost the club's goals for column.
Full-back Stephen Wright and midfielder Sean Thornton have both found the net once - against Preston North End and Watford.
And Stewart, who only returned to the starting line-up on Saturday after being named among the substiutues for the opening Division One matches, is determined to keep adding to his tally.
"I was disappointed to be dropped, I'm not going to go jumping around the room when I am dropped am I?" said Stewart, who lost out toct. ads that are now on the bench are disappointed.
"It's not a nice feeling especially when you know you can do it in this division. I was annoyed with not scoring in pre-season but I'd like to be judged on the league games.
"There will be times this season when I'm sure I go a few games without scoring. But then it's down to other players to score like Wrighty did against Watford.
"What I like in pre-season is more the fitness side of things and getting ready for the bigger games. In the last couple of matches I have scored, so hopefully I can now notch a few more."
Stewart, who has rarely struggled to grab goals during spells at Ipswich Town and Huddersfield, refuses to set a scoring target.
But manager Mick McCarthy believes the former Tractor Boy is more than capable of hitting 20-plus this season.
Stewart, who has the unenviable task of taking over from departed record goalscorer Kevin Phillips, said: "I like to score a goal in every game.
"You play about 40 games so I suppose that would be my target. But you never know what is round the corner and I don't like to set targets.
"You do get frustrated when you don't score and you try to change your game, but that rarely comes off.
"You just have to stick to your own game plan throughout your career and in the last couple of games I have got back to that form."
The front-man, who also set up Wright for the crucial second goal against the Hornets on Monday, revealed the relief within the squad after picking up maximum points from the Bank Holiday weekend.
The two wins have lifted Sunderland from second bottom to sixth and Stewart said: "It's been very good in the last two games. Two wins have made everybody in the dressing room bubbly again.
"What was nice about it as well was that we were playing great football at the right times.
"There will be times when we will not score the first goal. We might not be able to score until the 70th minute, but we have to learn to be patient.
"If people start to get on our backs then we have to just get on with it. I don't see why we can't enjoy a fruitful season. It's amazing what a bit of confidence does for you.
"We have now got an important game against Bradford on Saturday and we have got a lot more games to come. We now want to have a nice run of games now and stay up there but we are not going to go around saying we are chasing promotion.''
