ONE of the region's popular attractions had some unusual overnight guests - two of the country's most famous aircraft.
The former wartime bomber station at Elvington, near York, now houses the Yorkshire Air Museum and is no stranger to famous aeroplanes.
But they do not come with a better pedigree than the Spitfire and Hurricane from the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
The aircraft were among the stars of the bank holiday airshow at Elvington airfield, and were hangared at the museum before they returned home to Lincolnshire.
The museum's operations manager, Ian Dewar, said: "Once or twice a year, we have the honour to look after these truly remarkable aircraft.
"A lot of dedication by RAF personnel goes into preserving these, and we at the museum are proud to support them."
