PIONEERING wireless technology developed by a company in County Durham is attracting attention from around the world.
Castle Auto ID, based in Barnard Castle, is gaining a reputation for its expertise and innovative products, which use the latest in wireless technology.
The company's Blue Sky Wireless division is working with some of the world's leading manufacturers on a range of products and services including networks, devices, telephony and security.
Companies including Nissan, Newcastle United Football Club, Amdega, NSK Bearings and Electrolux have benefited from the company's expertise and products, ranging from barcoding and labelling to tracking goods, data collection and inventory and warehouse management.
Castle Auto ID is also working with businesses ranging from major retail chains and health trusts to theme parks.
The company, with 19 employees, has taken advantage of support from Business Link County Durham, a division of A4E Consult.
Formed in 1991, the firm worked in the labelling field before moving into barcode technology and then wireless technology.
It has worked with Durham University to develop some of its products.
Managing director Derek Stainton said: "We have spent more than two years developing new wireless technology and are now reaping the rewards.
"Being located in a rural area has given us many environmental benefits and we have been able to grow successfully here."
John Atkinson, business improvement consultant at Business Link, said: "Castle Auto ID is a highly innovative small business in rural Durham that is leading the world and providing solutions to many different sectors of industry."
